Canby FBLA Members Qualify for State Competition at New Columbia Delta Regional Skills Conference

Some of the future business leaders of Canby, Clackamas County, Oregon and America were on display this weekend as the Oregon FBLA‘s Columbia Delta Regional Skills Conference was held at Canby High School.

Oregon FBLA, or Future Business Leaders of America, is the premier organization for student leaders preparing for careers in business, management, entrepreneurship, and technology.

As Canby High School business teacher and Canby FBLA adviser Tonya Boustead explained, there were a lot of changes to the competition this year. Canby’s region was combined with another to form the Columbia Delta, which has 13 chapters of the Oregon FBLA.

“Since only the top 10 competitors in each event qualify for state, this definitely made it more difficult to qualify for state this year,” she said.

Despite the increased competition, many Canby High students rose to the challenge and qualified for the state competition. Some of the most impressive finishes included:

  • Logan Doman, Naarai Gomez and Matthew Powell finished first in Business Ethics.
  • Allison Bassett and Nimsi Gomez finished first in Emerging Business Issue.
  • T.J. Edward and Peter Sansone finished first in Introduction to Business Presentation.
  • Kamryn Millar finished first in Introduction to Business Procedures.
  • Matthew Powell and Andrew Viter finished first in Management Decision Making.
  • Joey Gartrell, Andrew Viter, Riley Pittman and Emma Ulven finished second in Hospitality Management.
  • Peter Sansone finished second in Introduction to Business Procedures.
  • Sydney Cochell, Emma Hodson and Bree Marino finished third in Introduction to Business Presentation.
  • Logan Doman finished third in Public Speaking.
  • Other qualifiers included Naarai Gomez (Accounting II, 10th); Diego Arredondo (Accounting II, 9th; Entrepreneurship, 5th); Emma Ulven (Advertising, 10th); Makenna Reierson (Business Calculations, 7th); Caleb Chupp (Business Law, 4th; Entrepreneurship, 5th); Nellie Hanson (Entrepreneurship, 5th; Marketing, 6th); Ellie Thompson (Entrepreneurship, 5th; Marketing, 6th); Ben Bailey (Entrepreneurship, 5th); Kamryn Millar (Introduction to Business, 8th); Mykenzie Burnell (Introduction to Business Procedures, 5th); Maddox Oliver (Introduction to Business Procedures, 4th; Sports and Entertainment Management, 8th); Emma Hodson (Introduction to Business Procedures, 6th); John Vandecoevering (Introduction to Business Procedures, 8th; Sports and Entertainment Management, 8th); T.J.
