‘Our Community is Amazing’: Canby’s Swan Island Lends Hand after Cancellation of Tulip Fest

Hey, how about some good news? I think we could all use it.

Our friends at the most beautiful place on earth, Swan Island Dahlias have announced they will be selling pots of tulips and daffodils in their self-serve flower stands.

Sacrilege, am I right? No! It’s actually Swan Island’s way of helping Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm in Woodburn, who had to cancel their annual Tulip Fest because of the coronavirus pandemic.

After announcing the initiative this weekend, Canby made good on its reputation as “The Garden Spot.” Heather Gitts Schloe, of Swan Island Dahlias, said the response was immediate and overwhelming.

“We sold over 150 pots of tulips and daffodils,” Schloe told the Canby Now Podcast. “Our community is amazing!”

She said they plan to continue all week and maybe longer, depending on how they continue to sell. And if you’ve already done your part, you can still help by spreading the word, or spreading the love, to those who might need a little flowery brightness in their world right about now.

“Let’s support Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm in these uncertain times,” Schloe says. “We are in this together!”

Pots are $10 each, and the stand is self-serve, so please use exact change, Swan Island is located at 995 NW 22nd Ave.
