Three Dead, Two Injured in Horrific Crash on Highway 221 South of Dayton

Three people were killed and two seriously injured in a horrific two-vehicle crash south of Dayton this week.

Oregon State Police says the crash occurred shortly before noon Monday, near mile post 10 on Highway 221/Wallace Road NW. They say 33-year-old Krista Ashley was northbound in a gray 2004 Volkswagen Passat, when she crossed into the southbound lane for unknown reasons and struck a black 2019 Chevy Cruz, being operated by 69-year-old Susie Valdez.

Valdez and her passenger, Robert Valdez, age 70, both sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. A juvenile female passenger in Ashley’s car also sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at Salem Hospital.

Ashley and another passenger, Daniel Norris, age 28, were transported to Salem Hospital with serious injuries. All of the involved were residents of Salem.

Oregon State Police was assisted by the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office, Dayton Fire, and ODOT.
