Clackamas Community College Hosts Career Technical Showcase

Youth and parents are invited to a career technical showcase at Clackamas Community College to learn about in-demand jobs in Clackamas County and the skills needed to get them.

This free event is Tuesday, Aug. 13, 6:30-8 p.m., at the college’s Industrial Technology Center on the Oregon City campus.

Local businesses will be on hand to offer insight into the industrial technology, welding, automotive, renewable energy and water environmental technology fields and the status of the current job market. Clackamas Community College staff will give tours of the facility and share information about the college’s programs and trainings. Also, financial aid staff will be on hand to answer questions about paying for college.

Clackamas Community College has a longstanding partnership with hundreds of companies in the area, from manufacturing to renewable energy technology. These companies actively seek CCC students offering opportunities for internships and employment.

“The demand for employees in machining, welding and renewable energy is extremely high right now,” says Mike Mattson, chair of the college’s industrial technology department. “Employers are at our door seeking qualified employees. Our employment rates are essentially 100 percent.”

Some high school students may qualify for high school career technical education courses at CCC. For those 17-29, the college’s TechHire program offers paid internships, training and advising. To attend the career technical showcase, register at www.indtech.eventbrite.com. For questions, call 503-594-3318.
