City Laying the Ground Work for Splash Pad at Maple Street Park

The city of Canby has drafted the initial request for proposal to design its long-awaited splash pad. The council voted last month to place the water feature at Maple Street Park, the city’s largest park, located on North Maple Street, but the size, design and exact location are still up in the air.

I guess you could say the situation is fluid.

During a recent interview, Mayor Brian Hodson explained that he and members of the city’s parks and recreation advisory board have been doing their due diligence, including visiting splash pads in other cities to solidify their vision of what Canby’s could and should look like.

Though Hodson said he would have preferred the council to locate the splash pad downtown, where it would be easier to secure and maintain and also offer some potential for economic development, he admitted he’s excited about the project and does see the advantages Maple Street Park offers as well.
