CCC STEM Talk to Explore Adolescent Development, Research This Week

For many, adolescence can feel like a delicate balancing act — and some of us handle it better than others. There are neurological changes, new social experiences and behavioral factors that play a role in adolescent development.

Despite the pressures they face, most adolescents make it across the high wire into adulthood without major problems, but some do not. Why do some adolescents show resilience, while others develop significant problems?

These questions, and more, will be the subjects of a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (or STEM) Talk hosted by Clackamas Community College from 5 to 6 p.m. Feb. 26.

That’s right, parents: a college professor is going to explain to you why your preteen’s brain is so weird, according to science. What could be better?

You’ll also learn about the new insights researchers are finding into the way biological and sociocultural systems impact resilience, as well as the promising avenues for understanding adolescent development.

The STEM Talk will take place in the Harmony West Community Room on the Milwaukie campus, 7738 SE Harmony Road. Guests are invited to a meet and greet at 4:30 p.m. before the discussion begins. This event is free and open to the public.
