Canby Cowboy Leaps in NFR Standings after Victory in Round 7

Canby’s professional bull rider Chase Dougherty took home the buckle last night in the seventh go-round of the annual National Finals Rodeo championships in Las Vegas. The bull he was riding? Lookin Up, owned by Frontier Rodeo Co.

It’s an appropriate name, as the same is true of Chase’s chances as he and his fellow competitors head into the home stretch. Chase also earned a check, finishing second, in the previous go-round (round 6), and his winning score of 87.5 last night moves him into third place in the NFR standings and third place overall, with earnings of almost $200,000 on the season.

The 20-year-old cowboy and 2016 Canby High School grad is now in better shape than when he was coming in to his first-ever NFR — an incredibly impressive showing regardless of what happens in the final three rounds.

It’s also an impressive comeback, after three straight no-scores in rounds 3 through 5 had nearly dropped him out of the standings. He’s now only 2.5 points out of second place, so he’ll have the chance to move up again at the NFR’s eighth go-round tonight. There are 10 rounds total, as the annual season-ending rodeo championships wrap up this weekend. Go get ’em, Chase!
