Cougars Drop Home Opener to South Medford

The Canby Cougars football team (0-2) lost their CHS opener before a rowdy home crowd on Friday, falling to the South Medford Panthers 38-12.

Senior quarterback Trent Wakefield (4) had a big game, going 9/22 for 108 yards through the air and rushing for another 54, with a touchdown. Senior running back Steven Dale (30) joined him on the board, shaking loose for a 39-yard touchdown scamper in the fourth quarter that electrified the Canby faithful.

Several Cougars also came up big on defense, with sophomore safety Chance Miller (1) racking up 10 tackles, and senior lineman Stephen Rue (45/70) adding another 8, including 3 tackles for loss.

Next week, they’ll face another tough matchup but will stay at home, as they open conference play up against the undefeated Tigard Tigers.
