Looking ahead to the future a little bit, the 2020 Canby High School Football schedule was just released and offers some intriguing matchups.
Most of the Cougars’ opponents were already known from the new 5A special district that was formulated to accommodate Canby: including North Salem, St. Helens, McKay, Hillsboro, Scappoose, Forest Grove and Wilsonville.
But that still left two blank spots on the schedule, until now. We can now tell you Canbys non-league opponents this year will be two likely playoff teams, the Dallas Dragons and West Albany Bulldogs.
It’s an off year for home games, with only four contests scheduled at Cougar Stadium: Dallas, St. Helens, Scappoose and Forest Grove.
The regular season wraps with a road match vs. new league rival Wilsonville.
“West Albany should a big test,” said head coach Jimmy Joyce. “They’re a 5A powerhouse and should be top 5. And the matchup with Wilsonville at the end will be huge. They’ll probably be ranked No. 1 preseason.”
The schedule also sheds some clarity on the 2021 season, where all the matchups will be the same, but with the home and away teams reversed.
